A brand new display home in sunny Nelson is drawing the crowds.

When director Simon Collett Jennian Homes – Nelson Bays decided it was time for them to construct a show home, he wanted to create an inspirational dwelling for potential homebuilders. With a good understanding of their “typical” build, he set about working with the company’s home consultants to develop an exciting, contemporary house. “One of the most important concepts was to try to include as many examples of options that we commonly use in the houses we build,” says Hugh. The house had to be visually engaging, along with having the necessary wow-factor, and the design made the most of the section: “we built to the maximum coverage of the site”.

Many potential homebuilders are drawn to smooth, modern plaster finishes, and this was one of the reasons Jennian Homes elected to use Rockcote. The Rockcote cavity based, EPS Insulated Render system was chosen for the exterior, which includes the hand applied Rockcote Tasman mineral texture. The surface was finished in Resene X200, in colour Tapa. Local Rockcote registered plasterers Galbraith Plastering were chosen to apply the system for the show home.

In addition to the plaster effect, stone was used as a feature cladding. From Classic Stone, a New Zealand Mountain Shale in Central Brown tones was selected. Unique to Classic Stone, this particular cladding profile has been developed to represent natural local stone, in accordance with the current Building Code requirements. The appearance mirrors that of stone found in our mountains and the high country, and is a cost effective way to create a look that connects with the environment. It is also a very durable and strong system, which is both tried and proven on homes all around the country.

As with many new houses, this show home has been designed to energy efficient and future proofed principles. With the assistance of Right House Ltd, a company specialising in providing customised energy efficient home solutions, Jennian Homes were able to create a healthy home environment. The systems selected for the home were part of a total energy solution completed by Right House Ltd. Most important in terms of energy efficiency is the Sky Power evacuated tube solar hot water heating system, as well as the Fujitsu ducted heat pump system which provides heating and cooling to the entire home. The house also received a major insulation upgrade.

In accordance with the Right House solution for the display house, an additional heating source was also included. From Rockgas Nelson, the Rinnai Arriva in-built gas fire is a stylish focal point of the lounge. While it makes a stunning visual statement in the room, it is also a very efficient fire rather than a simply aesthetic inclusion.
